Make Money From Home Captioning Videos with Rev

Share
The coronavirus pandemic has made it quite difficult to find a job, especially for those whose previous job simply isn’t realistic anymore. But there are so many ways to make a little extra money on the side while you’re stuck at home; it’s the perfect time to monetize a skill you already have, or to learn a new skill that allows you to work from home.

What Is It?

Rev is a trusted transcription service that offers work opportunities to freelancers. You can transcribe audio or video files, caption videos, or even write foreign subtitles if you speak another language. They work with well-known networks such as PBS, CBS, Youtube, Amazon, Microsoft, and so much more. And it’s so easy to get started!

How Do I Get Started?

To become a Rev freelancer (or Revver as they call it), you have to fill out a relatively short application and take a short grammar/english assessment to see if you have the general writing skills to be able to work for them. After the online assessment, they give a brief rundown on their editing styles and the basics of how to caption/transcribe their videos. You’re then asked to caption a short video (generally around 3 minutes long) using their style guide which is attached to your application so that they can see how you do and what you have to offer as a Revver. You receive an email within the next few days after submitting your application whether or not you got the job and the steps moving forward if it was approved.

How Does It Work?

Sounds easy enough right? Rev and their employees are great at explaining how to transcribe and caption, especially if you’ve never done it before! They have caption and style guides easily available, and helpful videos that describe the whole process. In your account you have a Find Work tab that leads you to all of the available work opportunities, which clearly displays what subject the video is, its duration, how much you’ll make, and when it’s due. There is a time limit after you claim it where you have the chance to unclaim the project in case you can’t finish it by the time it’s due or if something comes up that makes you not be able to complete it.

Will I Qualify? How Do I Get Paid?

Don’t worry if your skills aren’t as fine tuned as you would like once you start as a Rookie, every time you submit one of your projects, it is always checked by an official Revver and you get graded on your work. Even if you made mistakes, you still get paid!

They tell you what you need to work on, provide resources to help, and clearly lay out how you’re performing as a Rookie and evaluate how you’re progressing on becoming a Revver. They work fast at doing so, sending you the money you earned through Paypal within days of submitting.

Once you meet the requirements of a Revver, more job opportunities become available, you can be a grader, and more!

Wrapping It Up

The best part about Rev? You’re a freelancer on your own timeline. This means that there is no minimum requirement of projects you need to do to keep your position as a Revver on their site, you can jump right back in and edit as many or as little projects you want, whenever it’s convenient for you.

COVID-19 has stunted the workforce in many ways, now is the time to take action and adapt to the realities of our world right now. Learn some new skills, find new work from home opportunities and make extra money while keeping yourself and your family safe.
